1st Heat Warning for Whole Country

Heat advisories were issued for all parts of the country on Thursday as temperatures peaked this record summer.

It was the first time since heat advisories were introduced in 2008 that simultaneous advisories have been issued across the whole country.

The day's record temperature in Daegu was 37.8 degrees Celsius, in Gwangju 36.7 and in Seoul 36.4, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration.

But the highest temperatures were 39.5 degrees in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province and 39.4 degrees in Changnyeong, South Gyeongsang Province.

The KMA forecast that this summer's heat will peak from Thursday to Sunday and hot weather will continue well into next week.

Daytime highs are expected to reach 36 degrees in Seoul, Daejeon and Gwangju, 37 degrees in Daegu, and 33 degrees in Busan on Friday.

Hot air is continuing to come in from China, but tropical nights when the mercury does not fall below 25 degrees will gradually fade out as the sun sets earlier.
