Annual Documentary Film Fest Starts Wednesday

The annual DMZ International Documentary Film Festival started its weeklong run on Wednesday in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.

Some 111 documentaries from 30 countries have been selected from among 661 entries from 69 nations.

The Korean film "Crying Boxers" was selected to open the fest. The film is about a high school boxing club for ethnic Koreans in Tokyo. Another nine Korean films produced under the sponsorship of the festival's organizing committee will be shown.

Festival directorJo Jae-hyeonsaid this year's festival is trying to raise awareness for documentaries, and thus places more emphasis on content rather than the number of films screened.
