BLACKPINK Is Only Korean Artist To Make Rolling Stone’s 10 Best Music Videos Of 2018 List

BLACKPINK is the only Korean artist included in Rolling Stone’s list of “10 Best Music Videos of 2018”!

The magazine recently published its annual list of the year’s top music videos. This year, BLACKPINK placed No. 8 with their hit track “DDU-DU DDU-DU.”

Rolling Stone praised the “DDU-DU DDU-DU” music video as “a feat of bonkers, maximalist creativity” and compared the girl group’s use of their iconic tank in the music video to the one in Master P’s “Make ‘Em Say Uhh.” The publication also noted that director Seo Hyun Seung, who is responsible for many of YG’s most popular music videos, didn’t hesitate to add his spectacular touch to this music video as well.

The “DDU-DU DDU-DU” music video was recently named the fastest K-pop music video to reach 550 million views and is known for having the highest official 24 hour views ever for a K-pop music video. It also has second highest official 24 hour views among all music videos in YouTube history.

Other music videos to make the list include The Carters’ (Jay-Z and Beyoncé) “Apeshit,” Childish Gambino’s “This Is America,” and Drake’s “God’s Plan.”

Black Pink (Hangul: 블랙핑크), stylized as BLACKPINK or BLΛƆKPIИK, is a South Korean girl group formed by YG Entertainment, consisting of members Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa, and Rosé.

The group debuted on August 8, 2016, with their single Square One, which spawned "Whistle", their first number-one song in South Korea. The single also included "Boombayah", their first number one on Billboard World Digital Songs chart, which set the record as the most-viewed debut music video by a Korean act. With the group's commercial success in their first five months, they were hailed as the New Artist of the Year at the 31st Golden Disc Awards and the 26th Seoul Music Awards.

As at 2018, Black Pink is the highest-charting female K-pop act on both Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200, peaking at number 55 with "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du", and peaking at number 40 with Square Up respectively.They are also the first and only K-pop girl group to enter and top Billboard's Emerging Artists chart.

They are also the first female K-pop group to have four number-one singles on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart. At the time of its release, "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" was the most-viewed Korean music video in 24 hours on YouTube.
