BTS’s “Fake Love” Becomes Their 3rd Song To Be Gold Certified By RIAA

The Recording Industry Association of America announced this week that BTS' song “Fake Love” has been certified gold -- the Korean septet's third song to go gold in the U.S.   

The song was certified gold on Aug. 8, recognized for 500,000 equivalent song units earned in the U.S. “Fake Love” follows last year’s “DNA” and “Mic Drop” as their latest gold single.   

One equivalent song unit, as recognized by the RIAA, is equal to one digital song sale, or 150 on-demand audio and/or video streams. The RIAA revamped its Gold & Platinum Awards Program on Feb. 1, 2016, growing from a pure sales certification process to one that includes tracks and streams.   

“Fake Love” went to No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May, making BTS the first Korean group to ever break into the chart's top 10. It was the lead single from Love Yourself: Tear, the first-ever Korean album to top the Billboard 200 following its release on May 18. Tear was the first predominantly non-English album to top the chart since 2006.

BTS is set to release their upcoming album Love Yourself: Answer on Aug. 24. The act has been teasing the release for several weeks, dropping a music video last week set to the solo song “Epiphany” by member Jin and sharing some promotional imagery on Monday. The group will also be heading Stateside next month for the North American leg of their Love Yourself tour, which will see them become the first-ever Korean act to host a solo stadium show in the country. They will perform at New York's Citi Field on Oct. 6.
