BTS’s Japanese album “Face Yourself” has achieved impressive sales results in the first week after release.

The group’s third full Japanese album “Face Yourself” was released on April 4. According to Japan’s largest music statistics site Oricon, the album sold 282,000 units in its first week (from April 2 to 8). This is the highest sales for an album in its first week by a K-pop group in Japan in 6 years and 5 months, since KARA’s “Super Girl” sold 275,000 units in the first week after its release in November of 2011.

Oricon stated that BTS has surpassed Japanese rock band WANIMA’s sales of 205,000 albums to become the male artist with the highest sales for an album so far in the first half of this year. They added, “This is the first time since KARA’s ‘Super Girl’ that an overseas artist, including both male and female artists, surpassed 250,000 album sales in the first week.”

KARA’s first week sales were not the highest ever recorded by a K-pop artist, but their album was the most recent to reach the milestone of 250,000 units sold in the first week.

BTS’s new Japanese album has also been a hit elsewhere in the world, ranking high on charts including the Billboard 200 chart in the United States and the Official Charts in the United Kingdom.
