Broadway Hit 'Kinky Boots' Takes Home Top Honors at 9th The Musical Awards in Korea

Asia's leading content and media company CJ E&M says that Kinky Boots, a Broadway musical produced by the company, has received the most prestigious award at this year's The Musical Award, along with the Best Lead Actor award that went to actor Kang Hong-seok who played 'Lola' in the musical. Kang has earned great reviews for his performance in Kinky Boots as he successfully portrayed his character by adding new charm to the role.

In 2014, Kinky Boots won a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album. The year before, it won six Tony Awards, the most for any show in the same season, including Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography, Best Actor, Best Orchestrations and Best Sound Design.

Lauren Minsun Park, head of CJ E&M's live entertainment division says, "We're delighted that Kinky Boots has been recognized with top honors in Korea as well as on Broadway. We hope to see the musical become a steady seller around the world. Also, we look forward to working with overseas partners to produce more masterful musicals like Kinky Boots".

Having garnered rave reviews for the production, Kinky Boots opened on Broadway in 2013, and it has since continued its successful run. Last September, Kinky Boots began its US national tour, having made stops at 30 different cities so far. The musical is now coming to meet audiences in over 20 other American cities. Kinky Boots also plans to expand the stage to West End London following Toronto, Canada.

Kinky Boots is a story of Charlie Price, who struggles to live up to his father's expectations and save the family business of shoe factory from bankruptcy. With the factory's future in jeopardy, he meets a fabulous performer Lola in need of some sturdy new stilettos. Lola turns out to be the one person who can help Charlie turn the factory business around.
