Cast of ‘Real Men’ wax nostalgic over army food

The cast ofMBC‘s ‘Real Men‘ found themselves in a bubble of nostalgia when they encountered army food as part of their training.

Since all Korean men are required to serve in the army, military life can often be a source of nostalgia. For the older cast members, seeing the disgusting-yet-surprisingly-tasty army food brought back fond memories.

On their second day of being in the military, the cast members took to the dining hall, where they found a special meal waiting for them. Calledgundaeria(a portmanteau ofgundae, Hangul for ‘army’, andLotteria, a fast-food chain), the meal consisted of a hamburger, jam, and lettuce, which recruits would put together and eat.

“You spread the jam on the hamburger bread,”saidSeo Kyung Suk.“I missed this taste. The hamburger patty and the jam work surprisingly well.”

“I can remember everything,”Ryu Soo Youngexclaimed.“The grape jam, the meat, the chicken burger sauce, everything. When they all come together in your mouth, the taste is amazing.”

Although it may look somewhat disgusting from the pictures, the nostalgia value more than made up for it – although we’ll stick to our McDonald’s, thank you very much.
