Charity says YG is top donor

YG Entertainment was chosen as donor of the year by the Salvation Army on Friday.

The Salvation Army has selected its top donor every year since 2011 in order to promote a culture of donation.

When the accumulated donations of an individual donor exceeds 100 million won (about $90,000), the person is eligible to be chosen as the best donor. The total amount for an organization is 300 million won.

YG Entertainment, led by Yang Hyun-suk, has donated 500 million won to the Salvation Army this year and was eventually chosen as the best donor.

YG is a music label that is home to musicians Psy, Big Bang and2NE1.

The Salvation Army is a charitable organization that is often represented by its red charity pots. When the end of the year draws near, the organization begins collecting proceeds from citizens on the streets of Seoul and other cities around the world.

These days, people are able to donate just by tagging their credit cards or transportation cards.

YG Entertainment, one of the nation's three biggest entertainment companies, is also involved in some other volunteer work.

In May, Yang shelled out 1 billion won to launch the Muju Foundation, which helps deprived children and teenagers.

A father of two, Yang has shown an interest in helping out kids.
