Critics at Billboard have put together a list of the “50 Best Albums of 2018 (So Far),” and it includes BTS’s “Love Yourself: Tear”!
BTS’s latest album “Love Yourself: Tear” was released on May 18 and has been a huge hit, even becoming the first Korean album to take the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s top albums chart, the Billboard 200.
On Billboard’s new list of critics’ favorite albums of 2018 so far (which is organized alphabetically without rank), BTS’s “Love Yourself: Tear” was named alongside albums by artists including Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Justin Timberlake, Post Malone, Shawn Mendes, and The Weeknd.
Billboard described BTS’s “Love Yourself: Tear” as “one of their most thematically cohesive yet sonically varied albums, with maximalist production erupting against lyrics about emptiness.” Billboard wrote, “The album’s kaleidoscopic genre-hopping is exemplified by the emo-inflected lead single, ‘Fake Love’ — which is not so much a departure as an addendum to the septet’s sound.”
Leave it to BTS to break record after record in their ascent up the charts. The K-pop titans dropped a concept album about the loss of love, but there’s no love lost for Love Yourself: Tear: it clinched BTS’s first No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It's one of their most thematically cohesive yet sonically varied albums, with maximalist production erupting against lyrics about emptiness. The album’s kaleidoscopic genre-hopping is exemplified by the emo-inflected lead single, “Fake Love” -- which is not so much a departure as an addendum to the septet’s sound.
