From 1996 to 2001, Yoo Seung Joon was labeled as the leader of Korea's "Beautiful youth" movement, gaining fans of all ages with his energy on stage as well as his honorable and pure image. It was in early 2002 when Yoo Seung Joon made a life-changing mistake, resulting in deportation and prohibition of entry into the country.

Prior to his enlistment, Yoo Seung Joon was given numerous privileges and benefits from Ministry of National Defense, including permission to perform in Japan after receiving his draft notice. According to the law in Korea, you are not allowed to leave the country once you receive your draft notice. The real problem began whenYoo Seung Joon left for America after his concert in Japan where he obtained American citizenship which exempted him from enlisting in Korean military.
