Exo sets a K-pop record on Billboard

Exo, one of the nation's top boy groups, has set a new record in K-pop by ranking 90th in the Billboard 200 on Thursday with its second album, "Exodus".

The group's new ranking on the U.S. album chart is the highest a Korean boy group or singer has accomplished so far.

Exo-K, a spinoff group that includes six Exo members, recorded 129th place on the Billboard 200 for the mini-album "Overdose" last May.

The record was also unprecedented for a K-pop boy group at the time.

"Out of all the K-pop singers so far, Exo sold the most albums in one week in the United States", said a representative of Billboard, according to the website Star News.

Since its release on April 6, Exo's second album has also garnered significant popularity throughout the world by earning fifth place on the iTunes U.S. Top 100 Albums, which is one of the main music charts in the United States.

So far, K-pop singers that have entered the Billboard Top 200 include girl group2NE1with their album "Crush" last year, which reached 61st.

Boy group Big Bang'sTaeyangranked 112th with his solo album "Rise" last year.

Singer-rapper Psy's song "Gangnam Style" ranked No. 2 on the Billboard Top 100.

The Billboard 200 and the Billboard Hot 100 are different in that the former is a recorded chart for music albums and the latter represents the standard record chart for singles.
