INFINITE’s L Talks About Winning Awards, His Acting Career, And His Public Image

INFINITE’s L recently talked about his career, his year in 2018, and more in an interview with Star News.

In 2018, L won the Best Icon Award at the 2018 Asia Artist Awards (2018 AAA) for his role in JTBC’s “Miss Hammurabi.”

About his acceptance speech, he said, “The year before last, I received an award by myself and didn’t say my members’ names. Then we did a fan meeting and the members and fans teased me about that a lot. Even though it wasn’t that big a deal. This time, I was determined to mention both my members and my fans. That’s why I don’t have any regrets about the speech. Of course, I personally contacted everyone who helped me afterwards.”

He also talked about the experience of attending the ceremony, which combines both music and acting categories. “Normally at an awards ceremony, I would be preparing a performance with INFINITE,” he said. “But this time I got to sit back and watch my juniors perform. It was a new experience. I thought things like, ‘I should perform too’ and ‘They must have worked really hard’… it was a strange feeling.”

L then talked about his role in “Miss Hammurabi.” “It was a legal drama, but I think that I took home a lot of the personality traits of my character,” he said. “A judge has to have a lot of wisdom and know a lot of legal terms. I learned a lot from my seniors as well. I learned how to ad-lib from Sung Dong Il and Ryu Deok Hwan taught me how to act in a comfortable way. I also had a lot of conversations with Go Ara about acting.”

He touched on the topic of his public image, saying, “A lot of people thought [I was cold and aloof]. I think that when you’re in a team, everyone has their own role. When someone asked a question, there were lots of other people who could answer it. Now I have to answer everything myself. I can say this now, but the image was also decided by my agency. I don’t think they wanted a cold character, but rather a character who stands aloof from everything. I tried to do what they had in mind, but on reality shows, my real personality would come out sometimes. That’s why people thought I had two personalities.”
