[ASKKPOP] 'JYJ Law' fails to pass and will instead be subject to further review

The proposed 'JYJ Law,' a bill proposed byNew Politics Alliance for DemocracymemberChoi Min Heeto ban broadcast companies' actions of prohibiting the appearance of artists without justifiable reason, failed to pass.

This so-called 'JYJ Law,' which New Politics Alliance for Democracy's assemblywoman Choi Min Heewas a delegate for, failed to be approved by theScience, ICT, Future Planing, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee's law review subcommittee. Though the reviewers of the bill concurred with the amendment revisions, the bill was put on hold to be subject to continuous evaluation, as they felt additional revisions were necessary.

At the time, assemblywoman Choi stated, "JYJ, who was able to expose the provisions of a major label's slave contract and get ahold of a 'standard exclusive contract,' should no longer be at an unfair disadvantage. Since theFair Trade Commission's (FTC) ruled that nontransparent interferences cannot be prohibited, we need theKorea Chamber of Commerce(KCC), who holds the necessary broadcast license, to intervene: that is why the revised bill was proposed."
