K-pop stars aim for higher education

College admissions season has started and K-pop singers are receiving letters of acceptance from universities one after another.

One of these is Kim Nam-joo, a member of girl group Apink. She was accepted into Sungkyunkwan University's department of film, television and multimedia.

Many other celebrities likeJoo Wonof"Good Doctor"(2013),Song Joong-kiof "A Werewolf Boy" (2012) and singerKrystalof f(x) are either graduates of or students at the college.

Apink is one of the most up-and-coming girl groups these days. It has had a busy year in 2014 as two of its digital singles, "Luv" and "Mr. Chu", became huge hits.

Apink also became the first girl group to top a weekly TV music show for three consecutive weeks with "Luv" in December.

Sohyun, a member of 4Minute, will also become a freshman at Dongguk University's department of theater.

Most K-pop singers apply for majors that are related to acting, singing and theater.

Responding to the news that K-pop singers are securing spots at colleges, many Internet users left comments saying that these K-pop stars are taking advantage of their star status and are taking up ordinary students' spots at college.

But not all K-pop singers are applying for university.Suzyof Miss A,Choi Seol-ri(Sulli) of f(x) and Lee Hi gave up on taking the national college entrance exam, citing tight schedules.
