Libraries offer special lectures on humanities

Steve Jobs, world literature, pansori (narrative singing), effective communication for child-rearing methods. These are some of the topics in a series of lecture programs to be offered by libraries. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will host a special program titled "Humanities on the road" from August 21 to 27 at 21 public libraries across the country.

The program participants, mostly local residents, will hear lectures by experts in the humanities sector and engage in related field trips and activities.

This year's program is designed to offer comfort and hope for people saddened by depressing news of tragic disasters such as the sinking of the ferry Sewol, and exhausted by the heat of summer. Unlike the common notion of humanities, which people consider boring and difficult, the program focuses on themes which people will find fun, easy and interesting. It involves lectures on literature, arts, child-rearing, life, success and a variety of other themes.

Students look at the remains of ancient Korean kingdoms. They are participants of the "Humanities on the road" lecture program offered by a library in Gwangju, Jeollanam-do (South Jeolla Province).
