[MV Review] Red Velvet - 'Happiness'

Red Velvet'smusic video for their debut single,"Happiness,"was released throughSMTOWN'sYouTube channel.

Red Velvet isSM Entertainment'snewest girl group, and the latest to debut sinceEXO.  Considering the consistent success of SME's artists, expectations were high for the four girls:Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, andJoy.Let's take a look at their new video, and see if they lived up to the hype around their much anticipated debut.

The track itself is a cute upbeat summer song.  I love the youthful optimism in the lyrics, and the"la la la la la la la happiness!"line is kind of catchy.  However, I was a little disappointed with the song as the debut single.  Each girl's individual talent was not highlighted, and thus, none of the members stuck out or were memorable (even in live performances).  With the teaser images and promos, I expected these girls to be really unique and cool, but this single falls closer to being a typical, simple K-Pop track than a global hit.

The revised music video, however, I was a fan of.  Although there isn't really a meaningful storyline, there are cool quirky graphics.  Their undeniably strong visuals were showcased.  Consequently, there was limited dancing--and when there was dancing, they we're a bit off sync.  Overall, though, the colorful, vibrant vibe these girls give off is definitely a happy one.

I feel like these girls have the potential to be an awesome cross between2NE1andf(x)in the future.  Although their debut fell short of my expectations, I'm excited to keep an eye out for the growth and success this group is bound to see!
