[ASKKPOP] Netizens point out possible plagiarism for Taeyeon's 'I', composer responds

Yet another plagiarism controversy has bubbled in the K-Pop scene, this time involvingTaeyeon's new song "I," and its similarities to "Vaadi Pulla Vaadi," a track by Indian duoHiphop Tamizha



The plagiarism accusation was brought to light by one netizen who wrote an online post titled 'Isn't Taeyeon's "I" plagiarized? There is a song that sounds damn similar.'  In the body, the netizen gives a short explanation that goes, "It's a song by an Indian artist and it's the same from the beginning. It came out in August of 2014. Tamizha's "Vaadi Pulla Vaadi. Though the Indian lyrics make it confusing, you can hear that the background melody is exactly the same. This song came out long before [Taeyeon's "I"]." 


The top comment on this post counters the original poster's claim, providing a screen capture of whatMyah Marie, the co-composer of "I" wrote in response to plagiarism accusations. In the screen capture, you can read that the melody in question is a "royalty-free loop...that is available for any and all to use," in addition Myah's claim that the song was written in 2012. Other netizens also pointed out thatSMpurchases some of their songs so if you've heard a similar melody before, it's just legally purchased instead of being plagiarized.
