[ASKKPOP] Psy tries to evict the tenants of his building and gets into a legal broil

Psybutted heads once again with the new tenants of one of his buildings in Yongsan District's Hannam-dong. The singer had received a grant from court to forcibly evict the tenants on September 21; however, due to the tenants' resistance, his plan fell through. Five of the tenants, including four new residents and a small business worker, were said to have been taken to the police station under charges of obstruction of justice.

Psy's side stated, "An extension of stay was possible if the new tenants paid a deposit of 60 million KRW (~$50,850 USD), but as they didn't pay the deposit, we decided to proceed with a forced eviction." Psy's side further related that the singer, together with the bailiff, initiated a forcible eviction when they didn't receive the deposits from the tenants that were supposed to cover the leaseholder's damages arising from occupancy. The tenants, on the other hand, refuted Psy's statement by claiming, "We were forcibly evicted during the time we went to pay our deposits." The tenants also claimed that Psy had completely ignored their request this past September 18 to extend their stay and wait until their deposits were processed, proceeding with the forcible eviction.

Psy had purchased the building in Hannam-dong in February of 2012. At the time, a man identified asMr. Choi, who opened up a cafe in thebuilding, had gotten involved in an eviction suit with the new owner. Choi had agreed to move out by December 31, 2013, following the court's arbitration. On the basis of the court's decision, Psyrequestedthat the tenants evict the building, but his request fell on deaf ears. As a result, the singer submitted an injunction against the tenants last August to evict them from his building.

Last month,Seoul Seobu District Courttook the singer's side, stating, "The new tenants will hand the building back to Psy and compensate him 30 million KRW (~$25,420 USD) each." The tenants are said to be resisting the court's ruling and have voiced their dissent by trying to appeal the decision.
