Singer Lee Seung Hwan talks about sajaegi

SingerLee Seung Hwanappeared on the October 1 broadcast ofJTBC's 'Newsroom,' revealing his personal thoughts on the recentsajaegicontroversies surrounding various idol groups and agencies.

Lee Seung Hwan calledsajaegi "the music industry's overt secret,"and continued, "Recently, I was contacted by a [sajaegi] broker through an acquaintance. The broker told me that in exchange for $100,000 USD, he would raise my rankings on the charts."

The singer further said, "Music went from having its own meaning to something to be consumed, transformed into a commodity for consumption, and eventually became a business. Because we value music through chart ranking and monetization, I think the sajaegi controversy came to light.Of course, since streaming [music] is so popular, there are some things we can't control but from a musician's standpoint, I think there is a need for music to just be downloaded."
