Her debut was in 2007 with the song “Crazy,” which launched Son Dambi into fame. She also dipped a toe into acting with the SBS drama “Dream” in 2009, and after a handful of drama roles over the years, made her screen debut earlier this year with “The Accidental Detective 2: In Action.”

Having found that acting is the career that works for her, Son Dambi revealed that she wasn’t happy during her prime as a singer. “The hardest time for me was when I was the most popular. The moment I felt that I had no life outside of work, I became unhappy. I was popular, but physically and mentally I had no sense of ease or comfort. My life was a repeat of waking up and going to set. I became depressed and fell apart. Doing that for eight years, I lost all my energy.”

“I think I worked myself too hard back then,” said Son Dambi, adding that now, she makes sure to take care of herself. “I wonder why I couldn’t do the same before.”

“Now that I’m in my 30s, I’m in a place where I can look back and reflect on myself more. I’m not as stressed about things anymore.”

Son Dambi’s new film, “Rose of Betrayal,” premieres on October 18.
