[Song Review] - BewhY's "HEWGESO"

BewhYis by all accounts a champion. In 2016, he took home the crown on rap competition "Show Me The Money," and he has used his status as a winner to launch himself into a new tier of rap artists since then. His latest release, "Hewgeso [Rest Stop]," comes off the heels of a string of singles and even international collaborations (word toTalib Kweli, Big K.R.I.T,andA$AP Mob). It's safe to say that BewhY has set high expectations for what he can accomplish with his music, and "Hewgeso" is his way of solidifying his impact.

"Hewgeso" starts off with lush guitar chords and finger snaps, immediately signaling to listeners that BewhY is trying a different sound. The track sounds like a cross between reggae and boom-bap, and BewhY raps about the sacrifices he's made in life with sincerity and vigor. The song essentially matches its title and artwork, conveying the sense of thoughtfulness that one might get while exploring a "rest stop" late at night.

BewhY is slowly but surely building up a diverse catalogue and his music is becoming more accomplished and distinct with each release. "Hewgeso" serves as a great accompaniment for his other recent singles, and it certainly does a good job at generating excitement for a full-length BewhY album. It's likely that if BewhY continues down this path, he can become one of the most accomplished "Show Me The Money" stars while still managing to retain his own unique identity. Whether he's emotionally soul-searching or breaking it down for a soundtrack, BewhY shows the raw potential that will carry him far.
