[Song Review] NU'EST W – "If You"

NU'ESTare promoting as a quartet --NU'EST W-- now thatMinhyunis prepping for his debut inWannaOne. On the heels of the release of the 2017 version of their track "Look (A Starlight Night)," the boys have dropped a special summer single titled "If You."



"If You" is, uncharacteristically for the season, a ballad. It doesn't contain the uptempo, upbeat rhythms that we usually hear in summer releases. It does, however, have an uplifting chorus, and a switch to R&B during the rap portions, and we get lots ofJRrapping. I like how they organically integrate all this together, alternating the tender, softer parts with the edgier raps.



They might be down to a foursome, but they prove they still have the chops to tackle a ballad. Releasing a ballad might be risky during summer, but it's got a soft refreshing feel to it, far away from the high energy dance tracks. It's very smooth, and might just be the antidote to a scorching day. It often cools off at night, and that is precisely what this track reminds me of. "If You" is smooth and cool.
