[Spoilers!] Marry Him If You Dare Ep. 8: Five Moments of Panic
Have you ever had one of those weeks where nothing seems to go your way? Where everything's piling up and there's no end in sight? That was this week for me, and it was not a fun ride, let me tell you. This episode had me sympathizing with meltdown after meltdown as our characters faced some stressful situations. Let's take a look at how they handled the pressure...
5. Hyun Ah panics over the show
So our heroes of team three catch a big break-Mi Ran(Go Doo Shim) is giving them the freedom to do a special.Joo Hyun(Oh Jung Se) wants to do some epic historical thing, whileJae Soo(Ahn Se Ha) is concerned with "visuals" and wants to film Miss Korea and race car girls.You Kyoung(Han Chae Ah) says they should talk about super luxury items- women love to hate other women who can afford them, so they watch to feel smug.Mi Rae(Yoon Eun Hye) thinks a 'The Bachelor' style show would work, whileShin(Lee Dong Gun) wants to talk about the war in Afghanistan.
Hyun Ah(Lee Mi Do) loses it. The usually cool, calm, and collected head writer paces around and shouts at everyone- the epic is too ambitious, the "visuals" would be ruined because they'd have to be blurred out, the luxury items wouldn't have wide enough appeal, the 'The Bachelor' show is just too ridiculous, and it's not like they can just up and go to Afghanistan! it takes Joo Hyun to calm her down with his Pandora's Box idea- and not a moment too soon!
4. Ajumma freaks out when Mi Ran decides to scope out Mi Rae
SoAjumma(Choi Myung Gil)'s living at Mi Ran's for now, and is unknowingly under surveilance. When Mi Ran uses this surveilance to start to put it together that Ajumma and Mi Rae are connected in some way (if you only knew, Mi Ran. If you only knew.), which gets her understandably worried- what if Ajumma's just exploiting Mi Ran's trust to snag a rich husband for Mi Rae? Ajumma coolly assures Mi Ran that she's not making it up and thatSe Ju(CNBLUE'sYonghwa) has feelings for Mi Rae. Mi Ran confirms with Se Ju in a rather awkward phone conversation and then hurries off to check Mi Rae out for herself- is this nobody really worth all this nonsense?
As soon as Mi Ran's out of sight, Ajumma panics and RUNS to call Mi Rae- who, of course, has her phone on silent because she's at the library. Mi Rae misses frantic call after frantic call and a couple of texts while Ajumma stews in her own worries- in the end, however, Ajumma's worries were for naught as Mi Ran was impressed with her brief meeting with Mi Rae. Whew!
3. Hyun Ah and Joo Hyun panic about interviewing the family
Anyone who's ever planned an event knows that you have to plan for disaster. The disaster that no one saw coming this week was that the impoverished family featured in You Kyoung and Shin's home makeover special would show up in their very best clothes, looking too wealthy to properly tug on the viewers' heartstrings and get that 10% viewership that the team needs. The family stands outside, smiling in anticipation, while Hyun Ah and Joo Hyun clamor for a solution. Se Ju offers to go out and tell them to change into clothes that better fit their idea of what poor people should look like, and You Kyoung is /not/ happy. She stands in his way and calls him a "businessman" as if it's a curse word- now Hyun Ah and Joo Hyun have both the family and the fight between coworkers to deal with- yikes. You Kyoung stands her ground and manages to save the broadcast without having to humiliate the family. What a pro.
2. You Kyoung gets suuuuuuuuuuuuuuper drunk over Se Ju
You Kyoung, we talked about this- you have got to stop letting this stupid boy run your life! You Kyoung thinks she finally gotten Se Ju to the point where he's ready to give up on Mi Rae, and then he pulls out that story about the toy car and his resolve to never give up... ughhhhh. In her frustration, she gets wasted and then drunk dials Hyun Ah and Joo Hyun to complain in her weird, drunken code about her situation with Se Ju. Ajumma intercepts the call to Joo Hyun and takes care of getting You Kyoung into a taxi while You Kyoung does her very best to make the job impossible, shouting and waving her arms around at the unfairness of it all. Poor thing. Just a tip to you lovely readers- never get drunk when you're sad. It just makes you more sad and you wind up embarassing yourself. Same for when you're mad. It may be somewhat endearing when You Kyoung raves drunkenly and cries a single tear in the backseat of a taxi, but I promise that it's not cute when you or I do it. Just trust me on this.
1. Se Ju is scared of his own shadow
Se Ju and Mi Rae are on assignment in the mountains, spending the night in a long-abandoned and reportedly very haunted house. Anyone would be jumpy, but Shin's uptight self is a mess. He panics when something weird flashes in the dark- and then tries to shrug it off when Mi Rae explains that it's just one of a handful of hidden cameras the team put in place to make sure they don't miss any ghostly appearances. He literally freezes in place when he comes face to face with a spider- and then he makes Mi Rae take care of it for him, ha!
We're only halfway through the drama and things are looking pretty grim for team Se Ju... do you guys think he still has a shot, or are you rooting for Shin? And what'd you think of the closing scene?
