[ASKKPOP] Staff Picks: Best Songs of 2014 (Second Half)

It's that time of year again!  To look back at the glorious, glorious last six months of awesome K-Pop and then struggle so hard to choose which song and which MV during that time were the absolute best.  So many choices#thestruggleisreal.

Regardless, the choice had to be made and they were--by none other than the staff ataskkpop!  Which song did each staff member choose for the second half of 2014? Check it out below.

Jenny: BTS's "Let Me Know (live version)"

Produced by memberSugahimself, this is my second favorite BTS song ever, second only to "Tomorrow" (also produced by Suga..). I love listening to Suga's songs because he really knows how to work his members' voices best, and we have a beautifully emotional song as a result with very notable performances fromVandJin, who usually don't really get to shine vocally in songs. I specifically chose the live version because this song really showcases how great V and Jin are live and still manages to balance outJiminandJungkook(hint hint BTS producers hint hint).

Annie: B2ST's "12:30"

Perfect for the winter season, B2ST's "12:30" is an immensely soothing yet catchy ballad that succeeds in pulling at heartstrings while making you want to dance along--a hard and rare combo.  The track is so incredibly catchy with a beautiful instrumental and it makes me want to belt out and sing along whenever I listen to it.  I did feel bad forYoseobwhenever I saw him struggling to hit the high notes (courtesy of Junhyung) during live performances, but he pulled it off each time and it was totally worth it.

Priscilla: SPICA's "I Did It"

This is an English single, but I think this song deserves more attention with its empowering element and strong vocals. Love it or hate it, "I Did It" gives me a boost of confidence every time I listen to it, making it one of the feel-good songs of this past summer in my book.

Paul: Epik high's "Amor Fati (Ft. Nell's Kim Jong Wan)

"Amor Fati," which in latin means "love of one's fate," is a beautiful track.  "Amor Fati" dwells upon the thought that everything that happens in your life, including the pain and suffering, is good as it is experience necessary for spiritual growth. From the piano to Taeyang's faint "oh no" in the background, it's music candy for the ears. With deep lyrics and Tablo pouring out his emotions, it's a very thoughtful track. Kim Jong Wan's voice also complements the song and it is my choice for best song in the 2nd half of 2014. Give it a listen, you won't be disappointed.

Elisa: HALO's "Fever"

Excluding the cheesy English intro, this song reminds me why I like K-Pop in the first place. From the super poppy, synth sound to the adorable lyrics about an innocent crush, there's something about this song that lifts my mood. Though this is my pick for favorite song, the fact that the members have puppy faces doesn't hurt either.

Eric: AOA's "Like a Cat"

The song opens abruptly with explosive synth riffs, and then the music becomes lithe and bouncy, the delivery playful and mischievous -- like a cat. Jimin's high-pitched rasp injects the track with a shot of awesome. Even divorced from its seductive video, this song has its claws in me and won't let go. Not that I want it to, of course...

Jessica: LOCO's "Hold Me Tight"

The lyrics are straightforward and understanding. Listening to this track makes me feel comforted, safe, and taken care of. It is also one of the few hip-hop love songs that doesn't directly hint at sex. LOCO is definitely one of the most underrated rappers around.

James: Psy's "Hangover"

I really like the complexity of the song and the lyrics are so deep. Only Psy could make having a hangover seem really fun. Plus, who wouldn't want to listen to Snoop Dogg?

KG: Seo Taiji's "Christmalo.win"

Oh my god!  It's been five years.  I've waited five years for Seo Taiji's comeback.  It is a song with which you cannot find fault.  Ah~

Eunice: AOA's "Short Hair"

When this song came out, I thought it was perfect for the summer! Catchy, fun, and flirty, this song was making rounds in my head during the hot season withChoA's "Who-oh-ohs,"Jimin's addicting "Heys," the cute hair-fluffing dance move, and that sexy "Oooh~" hook. The fact that the song is about how a girl is going to be just fine without an ex in her life makes it all the more kick-ass. Love it!

Neefa: Yoon Mi Rae's "Angel"

This was super hard for me as I had 3 songs that really stood out for me in the 2nd half of 2014 --Almeng's "Half an Hour",HI SUHYUN's "I'm Different" and Yoon Mi Rae's " Angel."  Though I love the other two songs, in the end, there was no question that Yoon Mi Rae's "Angel" won my heart from the first beat 'til the end.  It has a message, but isn't preach-y; it has a great beat, but doesn't beat you in the head with crazy EDM beats; that bass line sounds fabulous in my car's subwoofers, and did I mention Tasha's VOICE. The song has heart and touches you, but is still a great pop song you can bob to; that is a tough thing to do these days. The addition of Mi Rae's fellow MFBTY membersTiger JKandBizzyis the proverbial icing on a damn great cake. I dare you not to love this song!
