In an interview with Yonhap News and Star News, Super Junior D&E discussed their upcoming comeback.

Super Junior D&E is set to drop their first Korean album in three and a half years since their mini album “The Beat Goes On.” Donghae notably took part in the composition and lyric-making of their new title track “Bout You,” while Eunhyuk participated in creating the rap portion. The trap, hip-hop track is about a man who is confessing after falling in love at first sight.

“While producing, I wanted to show off a different style than before,” Donghae shared. “Both Eunhyuk and I like to dance and wanted to show something different to Super Junior [as a whole].”

Eunhyuk added, “I’m satisfied with our album as we discussed and created it together from the very beginning. With Super Junior albums, Donghae will produce while feeling pressured. However, with our unit, we do what we want and make fun things.”

The duo also explained what made them go for a trap, hip-hop track as their title, with the first reason being they enjoyed listening to the genre themselves.

“Super Junior D&E is making music that is easier to listen to,” Eunhyuk expressed. “That’s another reason why we selected trap and hip-hop, as younger people are more familiar with the hip-hop genre. I hope that the general public will feel a sense of familiarity with our music.”

Donghae commented, “People may be familiar with the genre, but it is the first time Super Junior D&E is trying it. We wondered what kind of music everyone from elementary schoolers to university students enjoyed, and how this music will affect their emotions. We observed and asked fans, ‘What kind of songs do you like and why?’ during our world tours as Super Junior.”

As for how the other Super Junior members reacted, Donghae revealed, “Not everyone will like our songs. However, I have a lot more expectations as the other members gave [our new title track] good reviews. It’s something I started producing because I liked it, but it is true that I am still pressured and worried about the general public’s thoughts.”

While they do think about how their new album will do on the music charts, Eunhyuk clarified that they aren’t stressed as they know they are loved in other ways, such as when it comes to concerts. He added, “To tell you the truth, I don’t think that the current online music market is widely transparent either. A singer is not just judged by their performance online. We will consistently go forth on our own path.”

Super Junior’s “Bout You” will drop on August 16.
