TV Soaps Skewed to Middle-Aged Women Viewers

Middle-aged actresses dominate TV soaps these days. The stars of hit TV dramas --Kim Seon-ah,Kong Hyo-jin,Soo-ae,Jang NaraandHa Ji-won-- are all in their 30s, and more are coming later this year and starringKim Tae-heeandSong Hye-kyo.

The reason is that the main target audience are also women in their 30s and 40s.

One TV producer at KBS said, "Young viewers no longer sit in front of the TV, so there is no reason to use actors in their teens and 20s to appeal to them".

Another veteran TV producer said, "It's tough to find a new face in their 20s who can act well and looks good, so we end up turning to proven actresses who are able to generate ratings".

This trend has led to several TV couples consisting of an older woman and a younger man, stoking the fantasies of the main target audience.
