[ASKKPOP] Yang Hyun Suk reveals why he forbade Epik High from fully recording in the YG studio
On October 15, YG's CEO revealed to Star News,"For Epik High's 8th album, I didn't let them work and record fully at the YG studios. I'm sure they were struggling while going around outside studios."
The renowned CEO stated that there were some people who assumed that after Epik High signed with the company, they would be turned into a YG-styled artist. But he cleared the speculation, saying that it is not the case. He said, "I really enjoyed Epik High's style of music even from before, and I still do now."
Yang Hyun Suk continued, "That is not true. And I think it is a prejudice that some people hold. But I do feel as though if you were to work within YG, then it is possible to be influenced by other YG artists so I requested for Epik High to work at outside studios and they agreed."
He added, "I like Epik High's innate music style so to get rid of the partial fear of them being influenced by YG, I forbade Epik High from working on their music in the YG studios. YG doesn't interfere with groups like Epik High, who are fully capable of producing and creating their music, and we only help with promoting."
Yang Hyun Suk firmly stated again, "It was Epik High that wanted to haveBobby,B.I, and other [YG artists] feature in their new album. I want to state it again, but YG doesn't interfere with Epik High or other musicians such asPsy,G-Dragon,Big Bang, andAkdong Musicianwho are skilled in producing their own music, when it comes to music."
Finally, he revealed that he was pleased with Epik High's work and said, "Personally, I am very satisfied with Epik High's new album."
Epik High's 8th album 'Shoebox' will be released online on the 21st and offline on the 22nd, while "Born Hater" will be pre-released on the 18th.
