"Assembly" Episode 3

"Assembly" Episode 3

Episode 3 of"Assembly"is really what pushes the main characters onto the paths that they will follow. They commit themselves to decisions they were previously unsure of. Gyoo-hwan (Taecyeon) deviates from his chosen path, while Sang-pil feels renewed commitment towards his.

Politics has always been a skewed subject that has made for plenty of story fodder. It's intrinsically social and variable nature makes it a constantly evolving beast of predictable habits despite its sporadic behavior. Sang-pil learns of this, as did his recently passed friend. Despite what may look like clear party lines drawn by Baek Do-hyeon,Hong Chan-mi, and other political masterminds, they constantly steal across them to further personal ends. Everyone has a stake in Sang-pil's success or failure. In his grief, he is ignorantly unaware of the dicey decisions made about him. Part of the intrigue of"Assembly"will be Sang-pil's political awakening. I doubt he will succumb to the political pressures as quickly as Baek hopes he will.

"Assembly" Episode 3

Choi In-gyeong, on the other hand, is keenly aware of Sang-pil's emotional, personal, and political position. She has the power to guide him to fail or succeed. Her moral compass will be her greatest test despite her white hot temper, jealousy, disdain, and pity for Sang-pil.

Then we have Gyoo-hwan, a man devastated by grief and who channels it into the form of revenge. He has maneuvered himself close to Sang-pil, his target. What we don't know is how he'll seek revenge.

None of these stories is unique. Politics is what it has been since the start of man. Men have lost friends, felt betrayal, and sought revenge for as long as oral tradition has been able to speak about them and as along as ink has been able to keep their stories. What will make"Assembly"stand apart from the masses, or be entirely mundane, is how the story is told. As of now, there is nothing unique. But with twenty episodes to tell the tale, I'll hold out for a good outcome.
