"Birth of a Beauty" Episode 6

"Birth of a Beauty" Episode 6

Why doesTae-hee like Sara? Up until now I've assumed (and the drama has heavily implied) that it's because of her new fabulous physical body- a plot point that takes on unsettling undertones considering he's the one who got her that body in the first place. But the ongoing plot thread of this episode seems to suggest something else.Tae-hee admires Sara mostly because she's just really steady.

All the portions of their revenge scheme mostly go off without a hitch here. There are a few small points that may or may not become a problem down the line. So far, though, it's just another clear path to humiliation towardKang-joon andChae-yeon. Geum-ran continues to show off just how scarily manipulative a person can be when they have access to someone's emotional weaknesses. She's like an insane ex-girlfriend- Geum-ran is deliberately manufacturing crises that only Sara can solve. And even with clear warnings,Kang-joon andChae-yeon still can't pick up on the actual plan.

Surprisingly, this isn't a matter of their being stupid. "Birth of a Beauty" takes great pains to point out that Sara's actions here are a deliberate parallel to events we saw in the first episode of the drama. She's nailing all their emotional weak points, and the attack comes off all the stronger because as far asKang-joon andChae-yeon know, Sara's emulation of these previous intimate moments is a complete coincidence. Logically they can't even deny this, since the supposed universality of the experience was how they justified hurting Geum-ran in the first place.

And that's whyTae-hee likes Sara. She's thePerfect Partner. Everything that they do is completely in-sync, even though they only just recently met each other. As a force for evil, they're a team to be reckoned with, capable of achieving incredible victories that would be impossible for them to pull off alone. In the end, isn't that what relationships are supposed to be about?

Technically speaking this episode is mostly just a continuation of the tone and events from the last one. It's also possible that we may be stuck with this storyline for quite some time, given the specific timeline laid out for when the divorce is supposed to happen. But like any good thriller, "Birth of a Beauty" isn't giving us too many obvious clues right away. Every step of the plan is treated with the excited sense of secrecy it deserves, continuing to make the drama a decent bit of fun.
