"Remember" Episode 19

"Remember" Episode 19

Gyoo-man is hard at work trying to alienate every possible character he can. I'm surprised that even the security guards are willing to put up with it anymore. Every scene we see them, those poor extras look massively uncomfortable. They don't even try to manhandle Gyoo-man's victims anymore, because he's gotten so public with the violent outbursts that odds are good they're going to show up on someone's cell phone camera too.

In short,"Remember"is stretching out that nice phase in the revenge drama where we get to wallow in the fact that the villain is doomed, and every single minor victory he pulls off is almost immediately undercut by one of his burned bridges coming back to haunt him. By the end of the episode I'm not sure there's any character with a speaking role left who can seriously be counted on to provide some sort of useful support. Yet for all this Gyoo-man can't help himself- he still insists on making more enemies.

Oh, and Jin-woo is able to go trial and finally prove his father's innocence. There's so many trials flying around right now I guess we're just going to have to get Gyoo-man convicted one by one. I was a little surprised the prosecution even bothered to put up token resistance to Jin-woo's hearing request, because he really does just hand over the best possible evidence in perfect condition. At this point the prosecutor's office as a whole is probably just planning to convict Gyoo-man for every single crime ever committed.

And there's still one episode to go, with more humiliation in store. I'd feel sorry for Gyoo-man if he wasn't such a generally repulsive person. I kind of feel sorry for Jin-woo but, well...for him this was a journey. With all the other melodramatic plot problems likely to pop up at any minute, it's genuinely comforting for Jin-woo to know that he's accomplished the one and pretty much only goal he's had for the last several years.

That much is touching and sad. As usual there's nothing to fault"Remember"with as far as the production design is concerned. It's just that the drama hews so close to its tropes there's not much in the way of surprises, so it's easy to turn my brain off. At one point I was silently thinking to myself "big gang fight big gang fight" because of course there's no way Gyoo-man can pull ahead- not when failure is around every possible corner.
