"Solomon's Perjury" Episode 3

"Solomon's Perjury" Episode 3

It feels as if the closer we get to Ji-hoon the more confusing his motivation becomes. I have guesses, but the important thing for now is that he acts as a catalyst to get the trial going. Seo-yeon faces a great challenge, but with her faithful friends by her side and her determination intact, our heroine is not someone to be taken lightly. The Jeong-guk foundation seems aware of that as well.

Episode three is quite an exciting one and we have moved on from the build up of emotions and thoughts in Seo-yeon (Kim Hyeon-soo) to her taking action. I am absolutely loving the drama's focus on the conflict between mature teenagers and the adults who still treat them like children and therefore dismiss their wants, needs, thoughts and emotions. Between her parents and friends, Seo-yeon has a good support network and this enables her to fight.

I was curious about how the writer would balance the students' maturity with their youthfulness. Part of me was afraid that adult creators would inadvertently convey characters who are "too adult" and who would therefore harm the story's messages. I am very pleased to see a great balance between childish innocence, idealism, maturity and reason in our lead and the characters around her. Everyone has different sides to themselves and I look forward to seeing them fleshed out.

Ji-hoon (Jang Dong-yoon) is still the most intriguing character and he seems to be the most intelligent one around as well. He is academically gifted and highly motivated. I have been wondering what it is that will push him to defend his friend's possible murderer and I can imagine many scenarios. Maybe he saw someone else, maybe he did it, maybe he is only taking up Woo-hyeok's (Baek Cheol-min) defense to sabotage it. Nothing quite fits yet, but the boy has secrets neither we or the characters are probably prepared for.

Secrets are what moves this story and there is no shortage of those in Jeong-guk High School. Joo-ri (Sin Se-hwi) has clearly gone through something terrible to become this traumatized and Woo-hyeok's friend seems to have new information. We have all the key figures that we know of on the side of the students and adults, so I imagine the case will slowly start to unravel.

Woo-hyeok has probably done horrible things, but I am not convinced of his guilt in So-woo's (Seo Young-joo) death. He was probably at the scene, as were others, but there is clearly something bigger than him going on, something involving the school and the adults who run it. I hope the writers can combine the school trial and any subsequent criminal investigation well.
