"Triangle - Drama" Episode 23

"Triangle - Drama" Episode 23

I think I've finally figured out what Sin-hye is bringing to the team. She delivers all the messages. No, seriously, I paid close attention to see if Sin-hye ever actually does anything aside from just sit at a table, talking to one person, then to appear again later sitting at another table (or the same table) talking to a different person about what she just talked about to the last person in the line.

The main thing that's remarkable about this kind of narrative storytelling technique is how effective it is at increasing the time needed to communicate simple information. As our characters are incapable of acting without the luxury of this information, it takes pretty much the entire episode for something to actually happen. And by then it's time for the cliffhanger anyway. This drama was given an extension, and it's pretty clear that the production team is desperately looking for ways to fill time.

We do get one reprieve- discussion is made of the childhood picture. For the inevitable cute reasons this time rather than the rather dubious and convenient plot motivations that prompted the photo's initial appearance. And at this point, I'm actually pretty relieved to see the Yeong-dal / Jeong-hee romantic subplot. It's a nice moment maoinly because the romantic storyline, for all its faults, is at the moment decently paced, with no real overexposure.

I might say the same thing about the subplot involving the senior card dealers at the casino except that I'm not sure what exactly the point of that subplot is supposed to be and why we keep coming back to it. I'm also particularly confused as to why casino dealers, women whose job it is to know everything about the way card organization works, are apparently incapable of recognizing cheating. I'm also not sure why any of these people are supposed to register as serious villains in a drama that involves frequent murder attempts.

There's so little I understand about "Triangle - Drama" at this point that the whole process of trying to follow the story at all is just tiring. Even the multi-angled police raid doesn't do much for me here because, really, that just makes me wonder why no one has bothered to try that one before. Remember that time Yang-ha called the police and delayed the heroes' plans for an entire year? If it's really that easy, I don't get why anybody bothers wasting time with any other scheme. Or why Dong-soo couldn't have solved all of this back when he himself was a policeman. So many mysteries, so little dramatic impetus behind any of them.
