"Whisper" Episode 12

"Whisper" Episode 12

Chang-ho's death means that we now have no good fathers left to speak and it seems like it is about to spark a wave of abandonment, starting in episode twelve of"Whisper". Dong-joon and Yeong-joo use everything and everyone they need to in order to get ahead of Taebaek and Bogook's masters. The time has come for our cowardly key figure,Tae-gon to face the reality of his importance.

First things first, I am very glad to see the ripple's of Chang-ho (Kang Shin-il) and by extension Yeong-joo's (Lee Bo-young) stigma shown and that the series remained honest about her reinstatement. A lot of dramas show corruption, but not all dare to include its heroes in it."Whisper"does not place its wronged characters above it and present an idealistic fantasy. Their motives are pure, but they play dirty in a dirty world.

It is also refreshing to see Dong-joon (Lee Sang-yoon) let go of his father, a rare achievement for Korean drama heroes, but I do wonder if Ho-beom (Kim Chang-wan) can still cause him problems due to it. Connections matter when one lacks power and I feel as if our group should start making "friends" in high places. Jeong-il (Kwon Yul) has a network waiting for him if Il-hwan (Kim Kap-soo) falls and if they feel Dong-joon is riskier.

Speaking of the devil, I do wish Jeong-il were better developed. He feels passionate about revenge, but I cannot tell if he would give up his false innocence for it. I was hoping for an outcome where he would have to make that choice, but it seems Dong-joon is doing his work for him. I assume that Il-hwan will fall first, but I am mostly curious as to when the leads will be taking down Jeong-il. Il-hwan and Soo-yeon (Park Se-yeong) know of his crime after all.

I am guessing that Jeong-il and Soo-yeon's helpers will be of help to someone else at some point, because the series could not have teased the bait throw at them for nothing. Using their help would make sense, as they have committed fewer crimes and have access to all of the information. They can also get out without losing too much, a luxury our main villains do not have.

As for Tae-gon (Kim Hyeong-mook), he will either tell the truth and/or die, because the series would not make his fatherly devotion a main aspect of his character with no good reason. Then again"Whisper"loves its bad fathers, so perhaps his daughter is simply shown to emphasize the continuous bad decisions he makes as one. Only time, and by that I mean episode thirteen, will tell.
