Lee Sun-mi(born May 2, 1992), known mononymously asSunmi, is a South Korean singer. She debuted in 2007 as a member of South Korean girl group Wonder Girls and left the group in January 2010 to pursue her academic career.After a three years hiatus from the music scene, Sunmi resumed her career as a soloist in August 2013 with her first digital single, " 24 Hours ". It peaked at number two on South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart and number three onBillboard's Korea K-pop Hot 100. Her debut extended play ,Full Moon(2014), charted at number twelve and its lead single charted at number two on South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart and number three onBillboard's Korea K-pop Hot 100, also charted at number thirteen on Billboard World Digital Chart.In 2015, Wonder Girls returned to the music scene after a two year hiatus with a new band formation, Sunmi was also confirmed to be re-joining the group after her departure in 2010. The group later disbanded in 2017 after Sunmi and Yeeun decided not to renew their contracts with JYP Entertainment .

 Sunmi's Early life

Sun Mi was born on May 2, 1992 in Iksan , North Jeolla , South Korea. She attended Hwangnam Elementary School, Chung Dam Middle School and Chung Dam High School and currently attends Dongguk University , majoring in musical theater. She adopted her stepfather's surname, Lee, while in university and merged her original given name and surname, becoming Lee Sun-mi.

2006–2012: Career beginnings and hiatusedit

In May 2006, Sunmi was revealed as a fourth member of Wonder Girls , a girl group managed by JYP Entertainment . The group debuted with the single "Irony", on MBC 'sShow! Music Coreon February 10, 2007.[citation needed]The group quickly rose to stardom with their hits "Tell Me", "So Hot" and "Nobody" within two years of debuting.[citation needed]
